The Government has committed £215 million of capital funding to help local authorities create new school places and improve existing services for children and young people with SEN (Special Educational Needs and disabilities). The allocation for Southwark is £549,625 for each of the years 2018-2020 (£1,648,875 in total). Local Authorities are required to complete and publish a short plan that sets out how they intend to invest their allocation. This has to be visible to parents, carers and other local groups. Our strategy identified priorities for developing SEND educational provision for young people to keep pace with demand, share best practice and expand the opportunities, so that high quality provision is locally available to all Southwark young people and families that need it.
We have consulted with parents/carers, young people, education providers and other groups (click here to download details of our consultation). There has been strong support for the priorities identified for development. We will update our plans as more projects are identified to support the priorities and so parents/ carers and young people can see how this is progressing.
