The local authority has a statutory duty to provide alternative provision when a pupil is not able to attend school due to medical needs.
Who is this service for?
Children and young people of statutory school age who cannot attend school due to their medical needs and have missed 15 days or more of school.
Reception to Year 11
Criteria for access to service
Restricted – Your school will need to make a referral with a copy of your child’s attendance record, medical evidence and any other relevant documentation. The referral will be discussed at the weekly case meeting and your school will be notified if the request has been approved
How this is provided
Alternative providers deliver tuition directly to the pupil in groups or on a one to one basis. This may be in the home or other suitable location.
School work delivered is usually provided by the child’s school and a reintegration plan is coordinated in partnership with health professionals.
