Evelina London Paediatric Palliative Care Team

The Service:

The team provides tertiary specialist paediatric palliative care across the paediatric spectrum. The service provides an individual patient centred pathway from diagnosis, or recognition that they have a condition that is likely to shorten their life. The team offers consultant-led specialist palliative care management and advice to patients, families and professionals in ELCH, other hospital, hospice and community settings. The service provides specialist complex symptom management, advanced care planning support as well as end of life care through care coordination of palliative care services within hospital, community, hospice, school and social care settings. The service offers an out-of-hours telephone contact point for families and professionals under the PPC teams care in collaboration with the Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) Palliative Care Team on Call Service. The service works in an advisory capacity to clinical teams with primary responsibility for the child or young person whether in a hospital or community setting.

Who is the service for?

Any child with a life limiting or life threatening condition, known to a consultant at the Evelina London, requiring tertiary palliative care can be referred to the service.

Criteria for access to service

Any child, from the antenatal period, through infancy, childhood and also young people until they reach their 19th birthday, with a life limiting or life threatening condition, known to a consultant at the Evelina London, requiring tertiary palliative care can be referred to the service.

Accessibility of this service

The team provides inpatient support at ELCH and an outreach service, visiting patients and families wherever they are being cared Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, as well as providing 24-hour telephone advice to families and professionals through a service level agreement with GOSH.


How this is provided:

Once referred families are give the team’s contact details including mobile phone and email access for all four members of the team. The team does not arrange routine follow up appointments but reviews the children as needed following contact from the family or other professionals.

How can I access this service?

A referral form is available from the team’s administrator (0207 188 7188 ext 53278) and via the hospital EPR order system and should be fully completed in order to refer.

Provided through the Evelina London.

Confidentiality and Impartiality

The team works within the GSTT trust policy for confidentiality. We provide child and family lead management.
