3 week training course to support deaf or deafened people into work.

Age Range:

16 to 60

The Service:

Deaf Umbrella CIC is a community interest company offering pre-employment training to deaf people in their first language; British Sign Language. This course is a specialised course tailored to deaf people and is unique in its concept. The course consists of 3 weeks intensive training from 10-4 over 3 days per week. Upon completion of the intense instruction the deaf person has access to a further 12 weeks of support and guidance 1-2-1. The course is delivered by deaf people for deaf people, this means that as deaf person is able to communicate in their first language and receive instruction without the need for interpreters.

Who is the service for?

Anyone out of compulsory education who is deaf or deafened and looking for employment

Criteria for access to service

Anyone in receipt of employment benefits who is not currently on any kind of work programme with the job centre

Accessibility of this service

Opening hours for this training Wednesday to Friday each week 10-4. There is full wheelchair access to the building

How this is provided:

There is a ramp into the building, ramp into the offices and wheelchair access for the toilets

How can I access this service?

To access the service you must be referred by your disability employment advisor at your local job centre. There is no charge to the deaf person

How is this service funded / Do you need to pay for this service?

The service is free, it is funded by a partnership with the Department of Work and Pensions

Confidentiality and Impartiality

Deaf Umbrella CIC is held under the data protection act and as such is registered with the information commissioner’s office. Our service is impartial and accesses information from all local level services to benefit the client

The training is delivered by deaf people for deaf people, office staff have British sign language skills
