Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis service Kings College Hospital

We are a Regional Specialist Paediatric Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Service providing care mainly to children and young people who live in South East London, Kent and East Sussex.

The service runs shared care clinics with local hospitals throughout the region with our multidisciplinary team visiting each of these at least twice a year. The rest of our patients receive all their CF care at King's.

As part of King’s Health Partners - which includes King's, Guy’s and St Thomas’ and South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trusts - we manage all CF complications other than lung transplants.

We also support any child with CF who is admitted to the Specialist Liver Service at King’s. We have strong links with King's Adult CF service and run special transition clinics.

The service is involved in a number of multi-centre research studies, including:

  • Early detection of lung disease in infants with CF diagnosed by newborn screening.
  • Assessing the impact and safety of home intravenous antibiotic treatment for children with CF.
  • Assessing a new measure of liver fibrosis in children with CF to identify liver disease earlier.
