Fun summer school holiday activities for children and young people with SEND

This page shows holiday provision available to children and young people this summer.  Further information will follow so please continue to check for updates.  

Our inclusive Spectacular sessions will provide a safe and supportive environment for SEND children and young people, including arts and crafts, drama, dance, fun and games - our Superstar sessions are the place to be in Southwark!

Our experienced team is focused on delivering sessions that promote fun and friendships.

Sessions are pre-bookable only so we can ensure we can provide an excellent level of care with a staff ratio of 1:3 or limited 1:1 spaces.

We offer 5 x 1:1 spaces & 15 x 1:3 spaces on each of our sessions (please select the correct ticket), medical needs are considered, an assessment will be carried out for ALL children prior to all bookings being confirmed.

General short breaks criteria is as follows:

  • Age: 5-19 years
  • Southwark resident
  • Has an Education Health and Care Plan (EHCP)
  • Unable to access universal services due to level of need and/or requires additional support to access provision

Additional criteria for an enhanced place (1:1):

  • Attends a special school (in or out of borough) and/ or open to All Age Disability Service in Southwark
  • Severe or complex learning disability, physical disability and/or health condition

We are based at Spa School Camberwell which offers a safe supportive area which includes a hall where activities are carried out and 2 playgrounds, one which has gym facilities. The school is a secure environment.

A Sportworks Short Break provision includes a wide variety of sports, games, and fun activities for children & young people with SEN and disabilities.  Examples include dodgeball, parachute games, team building activities. The sessions are for children and young people aged 5 to 18 years.

Whippersnappers offers specialist provision for Southwark disabled children and young people. We run playschemes during the Easter and Summer holidays. We offer support for children and young people with higher support needs with a staff ratio of 1:1 or higher. To be eligible for our specialist playscheme, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Aged 5-19 years old (must have turned 5 before 31st Aug prior to enrolling)
  • Southwark resident
  • Have an EHCP Plan
  • Attend a special school (in or out of borough) and/or open to the All Age Disability Service in Southwark
  • Have a severe or complex learning disability, physical disability, and/or health condition

Whippersnappers playscheme is restricted to those that meet the criteria above. The All Age Disability Service and special schools will share registration links with eligible families when the provision becomes available to book. Please note: Places are limited and availability is not guaranteed.

Ages:

About:
Specialist theatre session for children and Young people age from 5 to 18 years with medical/ physical conditions including wheel chair users. All child and young people must be accompanied by a parent/carer who would be responsible for their child  at all times. Fully accessible changing facilities are available in Dulwich park by the café area.

4 wheelchair spaces available per show. Age range 5 to 18, children and young people will be split into age appropriate groupings.

What to expect from your Fairy & Pixie Land experience:

• On arrival, guests will be greeted with a refreshing glass of fairy potion.

• Children and Young People will visit our Fairy Wing Boutique, choose their very own customised Fairy or Pixie wings and have their face painted with sparkly biodegradable Fairy & Pixie dust. Create lavender bags, and take photos in our enchanted photobooth. Immersive activities:

• Visit the Arty Crafty Fairy’s art studio and get crafty making magic wands.

• Get busy in the kitchen with Sugar Plum Fairy decorating mythical treats.

• Enjoy a 25 minute immersive theatrical promenade performance of a magical Scottish Folklore tale featuring a famous mythical creature.

HEVER FAMILY CAMPING TRIP

A trip for 12 children with additional needs and their families

About:
Join us this summer for a memorable family camping trip at Whippersnappers Hever! This event is designed for 12 young people with additional needs and their families, promising a weekend full of fun.

On Saturday, 10th August, we will host a family fun day filled with activities such as forest school sessions, arts and crafts, water play, sports, circus skills, and music. In the evening, enjoy a delicious dinner by the bonfire followed by a lively disco.

Sunday, 11th August, begins with a wellbeing morning and breakfast, followed by opportunities for free play or exploration of the local area. Throughout the weekend, you can take advantage of our large activity field and woodland area, which includes basic amenities like Portaloo's & showers. We have a rain cover in bell tents, gazebos and inside our large Taj Mahal Marquee.

We will provide nature-based experiences such as bonfires, popcorn cooking, marshmallow roasting, dream catcher making, and mud art. Our activities are designed to foster child-led exploration and engagement.

Hever is easily accessible from London, with free parking if you choose to drive or you can take the train from London Bridge, Clapham Junction and East Croydon, where we have a shuttle bus available to pick you up people from the station. Our staff will be available to assist you upon arrival and throughout the event. Don't miss this fantastic opportunity to create lasting memories with your family in a supportive and fun environment.

Wednesday 28th August: Trains, Tubes and Travel

The Neurodiversity Family Hub are excited to announce and publish as part of its Summer SEND Sessions " Tubes, Trains and Travel", a day of exploration with train and travel enthusiasts. We will ride the Tubes, take a few trains and meet some train drivers who will tell us a little about their job. We may even get the opportunity to look inside the tube cabs and understand how they operate!

Southwark’s Activity programme for children and young people aged 4 to 16 years who get benefits-related free school meals.

SEND Craft workshops and trips

About

The craft-making workshops offer a fun and exciting environment for neurodiverse learners to grow knowledge and vital skills needed to create artforms of their interests and develop talents and/or skills.

You will be taught by our experienced craft tutors focusing on learning skills to make a craft.  Our tutors will support you with the step-by-step skills process involved in creating the identified craftworks.

Aim

The goal is for learners to develop their creativity potentials.

What will I learn?

Tie dye, Jewellery making and Loom weaving.

Objectives

Learners should be able to:

  • use selected processes to produce a craft taught
  • list various items needed to make craftwork of their choice
  • explain the process involved in making selected craftworks of their choice.

Age : 11-15 and living in Southwark

About: A swim from 10.30am -12.00am and then a meal at Burger King. Parents must accompany their children into the water, siblings also welcome. There is no supervision provided. Cost of swimming and meal will be provided.

Bowling at Surrey Quays followed by a visit to Surry Docks Farm (bring your own packed lunch)
Date: 15th August 2024, 10.00am - 2.30pm : 

About: Bowling at Surrey Quays in the morning followed by a trip to Surrey Docks Farm. Parents must accompany children, siblings welcome. There is no supervision provided. Cost of bowling and food to feed animals at Surrey Docks Farm will be provided. Please bring your own packed lunches.

Trip to Dulwich park
Date: 20th August 2024, 10.00am - 2.30pm 

About: We will hire a selection of bikes to share, you can have a turn if you like. Transport to and from the park will be provided and light snacks such as a drink or ice cream. Parents must accompany children , siblings welcome.  Please bring your own packed lunch.

Resources for Autism offers specialist provision for autistic children and young people. The holiday playscheme and Saturday Club offer a range of fun activities in a supportive and accepting environment. Activities will include sensory and movement activities, arts, cooking, sports and trips out to the park and the local community. Activities are tailored and adapted to the needs of the group and the individual.

  • Aged 12-19 years old
